Jesus knew that some people would not accept the startling claims He made about Himself.
Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do. John 14:11
He meant that if we consider HIs works, we will be challenged to take His words seriously.
In the Gospels, the miracles are often presented as evidence to support the claims of Christ. When the people murmur about Jesus’ statement to the paralytic that his sins are forgiven, He heals the man so —
So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” – Mark 2:10-11
When the Jews accuse Him of blasphemy —
“You, a mere man, claim to be God.” – John 10:33
Jesus responds —
Don’t believe me unless I carry out my Father’s work. But if I do his work, believe in the evidence of the miraculous works I have done, even if you don’t believe me. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.” – John 10:37-38
