The shape of this Church

Our conviction, reflection, and proclamation involves a restatement of the mystery of the gospel for all peoples. In Paul’s words, it involves a mystery that, “for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be known…according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. In Him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” (Eph. 3:9-12 NIV). If Paul and the early Church could say that in the midst of their cultural and religious diversity, we can feel confident in doing so as well. “Jesus Christ is Lord.” In the midst of many cultures and peoples of many faiths, let’s learn to be bold evangelists: faith particularist, culturally pluralist, and ecclesiologically inclusivist. – Charles Van Engen
