“He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.” – Colossians 2:14-15
The NT proclaims unequivocally that Jesus was victorious over the enemy in His ministry, death and resurrection, but Jesus and the NT authors see the ultimate realization of this Kingdom victory in the future.
He set in motion the creation of a new humanity by giving us His power and authority to proclaim and demonstrate the Kingdom just the way He did.
Jesus gives to all who in faith receive it His authority to break down the gates of hell and take back for the Father what the enemy has stolen, just as He Himself has done. Now that the ‘strong man’ is bound, this is a task we can and must carry out.
The Church is an extension of the ministry of Jesus carried out in His incarnate body while on earth.
