“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 18:18-20
It is troubling to know that in light of the clear teaching of God’s Word and in light of our Lord’s explicit definition of our task in the Great Commission that we take it so lightly. This is the Good News of the Kingdom.
His is the Kingdom; He reigns in heaven, and He is now manifesting His reign on earth in and through His church. He now works with us to accomplish our mission. He will then return an establish His Kingdom in glory. To us it is given not only to wait for but also to hasten the coming of the day of God. This is the mission of the gospel of the Kingdom, and this is our mission.
