Identity of purpose and people

identity of purpose and people

“But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.” – Galatians 4:4

It is significant that Jesus was a Jew, a physical son of Abraham.  When Christ had accomplished His redemptive work of death and resurrection, the divine purpose in history moved from Israel, who rejected the Gospel, to the Church – the fellowship of both Jews and Gentiles who accepted the gospel —

“I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit.” – Matthew 21:43

The Church has become —

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”         – 1 Peter 2:9

It is the present mission of the Church, as it carries the good news of the Kingdom of God unto all the world, that the redemptive purpose of God in history is working out.

Let Matthew 24:14 burn in our hearts.  God has said this about no other group of people.
