“If that had been necessary, Christ would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But now, once for all time, he has appeared at the end of the age to remove sin by his own death as a sacrifice.” – Hebrews 9:26
Christ has already appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. The power of sin has been broken.
“We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.” – Romans 6:6
Christ’s reign as King has the aim of taking away power from every enemy. This work is indeed future, but it is also past. Death has been abolished and destroyed, Satan has been destroyed, and our old sinful selves has been abolished and destroyed. The same word of victory, of the destruction of Christ’s enemies, is used three times of this threefold victory – over Satan, over death and over sin.
