“The Lord is king!
Let the earth rejoice!
Let the farthest coastlands be glad.” – Psalms 97:1
The gospel demand that flows from such a God to the nations is an eminently 3sharable, doable demand, namely to rejoice and be glad in God.
“May the nations praise you, O God.
Yes, may all the nations praise you.
Let the whole world sing for joy,
because you govern the nations with justice
and guide the people of the whole world. The humble will see their God at work and be glad.
Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged. But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “God is great!”
– Psalms 67:3-4;69:32; 70:4
What message would missionaries rather take than this message.
The liberating fact is that the message we take to the frontiers is that people everywhere should seek their own best interest. We are summoning people to God. And those who come say —
“You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.”
– Psalms 16:11
God glorifies Himself among the nations with this command —
“Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.” – Psalms 37:4
His first and great requirement of all people everywhere is that they repent from seeking their joy in other things and being to seek it only in Him.
