World evangelization through worship

crossworship

“Sing to the Lord; praise his name.
    Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.”

Psalms 96:2-3

Notice in the verses above the two directions of glory and how God mandates declaration of His glory to the nations?

What an eloquent portrayal of world evangelization!  But the Psalmist goes on to tell the purpose for world evanglization by describing the second aspect of God’s glory:

O nations of the world, recognize the Lord;
recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.
Give to the Lord the glory he deserves!
Bring your offering and come into his courts.
Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor.
Let all the earth tremble before him.

Psalms 96:7-9

In this respect, we can say that world evangelization is for God — however accustomed we are to seeing people as being of paramount importance, the Bible is clear – the rationale for mission is the colossal worthiness of God – “Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.” Psalms 96:4

God never needs the worship gifts.  But the gifts brings the giver.  That is why the nations come bringing a gift, offering God tokens of their finest worth.  By their sacrifices and gifts, they offer themselves.

Two reasons why God wants worship – He delights in sincere love that comes to Him in true worship and by wooing people into true worship, God is able to fully give His love upon them.

“Honour and majesty surround him;
strength and beauty fill his sanctuary.”  Psalms 96:6

“Honour and majesty” do not refer to God’s self-experience.  Rather, along with “strength and beauty,” they are features of God’s presence experienced by people who approach Him in true worship.

He wants to bring them into an honoured nearness to Him.  Stretch your mind and your heart as far as you can, but you’ll never perceive what God has ready for those who love Him.

Perhaps John got a glimpse of the “honour and majesty” of those courts in Revelation.  He heard all heaven’s myriads raise their voices acclaiming the marvel that God Himself has purchased people from every tribe and tongue.

 The peoples are to voice praise gifts to God in their many languages, but no people is to offer speculative guesses about what is rightful praise. Only the truth God has revealed about Himself.
